What time does the boat parade reach the spot where you plan to watch?
The 118th Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade runs Wednesday through Sunday, December 16 to 20, hosted again by the Commodores Club of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce. Each night it leaves the Tip of Lido Isle at about 6:30 and returns there at 9:00. That's two and a half hours on the water, and the boats spend only a slice of it in front of any one shoreline. If you watch from the Balboa Peninsula, they reach you before 7 p.m. If you watch from Mariners' Mile or Lido Marina Village, they reach you close to 9.
The organizer's 2026 route map lists the expected time at 57 points around the harbor. The schedule matches the one printed on last year's map. Read in order, the map shows the harbor offering three different parade nights.
The clock, stop by stop
| Stretch of harbor | Selected stops and estimated times |

| Balboa Peninsula | Woody's Wharf 6:51, Marina Park 6:54, 15th Street Beach 6:57, 10th Street Beach 7:02, Balboa Fun Zone and Balboa Pavilion 7:15, Peninsula Point Beach 7:25, Pirate's Cove 7:32 |
| Balboa Island | Balboa Island Bridge 7:45, South Bayfront and Grand Canal 7:54, Balboa Island Ferry Landing 8:01, Collins Island 8:03, North Bayfront 8:07 |
| Back Bay side and Mariners' Mile | Harbor Island 8:18, PCH Bridge 8:26, Balboa Bay Resort 8:35, Rusty Pelican 8:43, Louie's by the Bay 8:44 |

The organizer calls these times estimates and suggests arriving early for the best viewing and parking. The spread is wide, though. The boats pass Marina Park and Lido Marina Village almost two hours apart, so the three stretches below are really three separate evenings.
The early evening on the Peninsula
The Peninsula gets the boats first. It also gets most of the opening-night events, so this is the stretch that asks for the earliest start.
Marina Park, at 1600 W. Balboa Blvd., is the largest public viewing area on the route. Admission is free, and the organizer lists the park at 10.5 acres with 177 parking spaces. On Wednesday, December 16, the park hosts the opening ceremony and the fourth annual Holiday Market, run with Vogels Vibes. The organizer's Marina Park page lists more than 35 local makers plus food vendors, live music and children's activities. Festivities begin at 4 p.m., and the market runs from 4 to 8. Fireworks over Newport Pier are planned for about 6:15 p.m. that night, as long as federal, state and local guidelines allow it. The boats reach the park just before 7.
Parking is the tight part. The organizer's directions and parking page says city lots and street parking along the route are available but fill quickly. The Lighthouse, right next to the park, says on its own parade page that its lot is shared with Marina Park, is extremely limited and isn't guaranteed. It recommends alternate transportation and extra travel time.
The Peninsula's Dine & Watch spots all fall in the first 45 minutes of the parade:
- Woody's Wharf at 6:51
- Peninsula Village, home to Buona Forchetta, CasaDami and Shorebird, at 6:52
- The Lighthouse Café at 6:55 and the American Legion Yacht Club at 6:56
- Newport Landing Restaurant at 7:14
- Harborside Restaurant at the Balboa Pavilion at 7:15
At a 6:30 table, the boats come by around the time the entrées arrive. By 7:40 they have left the Peninsula: the map has them at Pirate's Cove at 7:32, the U.S. Coast Guard station at 7:37 and the Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club at 7:41.
The middle hour belongs to Balboa Island
The boats cross under the Balboa Island Bridge at 7:45 and loop the island over the next 26 minutes. They pass Little Island Beach at 7:48, the South Bayfront and Grand Canal at 7:54 and the Balboa Island Ferry Landing at 8:01, then go around Collins Island at 8:03 and along the North Bayfront at 8:07 before crossing back under the bridge at 8:11.
That timing gives anyone on the island more than an hour after the parade starts, which is enough for dinner at home before walking down to the bayfront. The Peninsula ferry landing sees the boats at 7:15 and the island ferry landing sees them at 8:01, so the same boats pass both ends of the ferry route about 45 minutes apart.
The late show on Mariners' Mile and Lido
The western half of the harbor gets the boats last, and its Dine & Watch list is the longest. After the PCH Bridge at 8:26, the parade passes A+O Restaurant | Bar at Balboa Bay Resort at 8:35. It reaches the Rusty Pelican at 8:43, Billy's at the Beach and Louie's by the Bay at 8:44, and The Winery Restaurant & Wine Bar at 8:45. On the Lido side it comes past Lido Marina Village at 8:46, Malibu Farm and Lido Bottle Works at 8:47 and HanaHaus at 8:48. GuacAmigos is also on the organizer's list of Dine & Watch restaurants.
A reservation at 7:30 along this stretch puts dessert and the boats at the same time. A 6:30 seating here means waiting more than two hours for the boats.
The drone shows run on the same clock
The drone shows follow the same geography. The parade organizer is running them nightly at two sites so they can be seen from both ends of the harbor. The sites are Balboa Bay Resort, which the schedule lists as Balboa Bay Club, and Peninsula Park near the Fun Zone.
| Night | Balboa Bay Club | Peninsula Park |
|---|---|---|
| Wednesday, December 16 | 6:00 and 8:15 p.m. | 6:45 and 8:00 p.m. |
| Thursday to Sunday, December 17 to 20 | 6:15 and 8:15 p.m. | 6:45 and 8:00 p.m. |
Set these times against the map and they line up with each viewing area. Peninsula Park's 6:45 show comes just before the boats reach Marina Park at 6:54 and the Fun Zone at 7:15. Balboa Bay Club's 8:15 show comes 20 minutes before the boats reach the resort at 8:35. On opening night, the Peninsula gets fireworks at 6:15, a drone show at 6:45 and the boats just before 7. Mariners' Mile gets a drone show, and then the boats arrive while the sky is still lit up from it.
The waterfront lights up in stages before parade week
The boats are the last of the harbor's lights to show up. The waterfront homes start earlier.
The parade's companion contest, the Ring of Lights, judges decorated waterfront homes. Registration is $35 and closes at noon on Friday, December 11. Judging is Monday, December 14, two nights before the first boat leaves Lido. Boat entries for 2026 are already closed, so for anyone on the water who hasn't registered a boat, the home contest is the remaining way to take part. The organizer's Ring of Lights page has the registration form.
The weeks before the parade build in roughly this order:
- November 19. VEA Newport Beach, at 900 Newport Center Drive, holds a community tree lighting from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. with live entertainment, Santa and an optional Toys for Tots donation.
- November 20 to December 27. Nights of Coastal Lights at Fashion Island runs from 5:30 to 8 p.m. around the 90-foot tree, with snowfall and music every half hour.
- November 27. Newport Dunes, at 1131 Back Bay Drive, opens its 36th Lighting of the Bay with more than 50 floating displays. Entry is free, and parking is a flat $15 that night. Its Fire & Lights Festival continues Thursday through Sunday until January 3, 2027. The same evening, Pendry Newport Beach lights its 30-foot tree from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The free event includes a performance by the Orange County School of the Arts and photos with Santa.
- December 6. The 47th annual Corona del Mar Christmas Walk runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is free. New this year, a hop-on, hop-off trolley connects the event stops. Pendry holds a family holiday breakfast the same morning.
- December 13. The 28th annual Balboa Island Holiday Home Walking Tour opens six decorated homes from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $50, with in-person sales at shops on and off the island starting November 2.
- December 16 to 20. The boats run every night, starting at the Tip of Lido Isle at about 6:30.
The Balboa Island tour lands three days before the parade, so those decorated houses are still lit when the boats come around the island at 7:54 and 8:07 a few nights later.
